Cabinet Battle #1
HAMILTON Thomas. That was a real nice declaration.
Welcome to the present, we’re running a real nation.
Would you like to join us, or stay mellow,
Doin’ whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello?
If we assume the debts, the union gets
A new line of credit, a financial diuretic.
How do you not get it?
If we’re aggressive and competitive
The union gets a boost.
You’d rather give it a sedative?
A civics lesson from a slaver.
Hey neighbor,
Your debts are paid cuz you don’t pay for labor.
“We plant seeds in the South. We create.”
Yeah, keep ranting,
we know who’s really doing the planting.
And another thing, Mr. Age of Enlightenment,
Don’t lecture me about the war,
you didn’t fight in it.
You think I’m frightened of you, man?
We almost died in a trench while you were off getting high with the French.
Thomas Jefferson, always hesitant with the President, reticent
—there isn’t a plan he doesn’t jettison.
Madison, you’re mad as a hatter,
son, take your medicine.
Damn, you’re in worse shape than the national debt is in,
sittin’ there useless as two shits.
Hey, turn around, bend over, I’ll show you where my shoe fits.
Hamilton
George Washington (Pride of Mount Vernon)
Thomas Jefferson (Whatever you're doing in Monticello)
Reynolds phamplet
Duel
The Schuyler Sisters
BURR Excuse me, miss, I know it’s not funny But your perfume smells like your daddy’s got money.
Why you slummin’ in the city in your fancy heels You searchin for an urchin who can give you ideals?
ANGELICA Burr, you disgust me.
BURR Ah, so you’ve discussed me. I’m a trust fund, baby, you can trust me!
ANGELICA I’ve been reading Common Sense by Thomas Paine.
So men say that I’m intense or I’m insane. You want a revolution?
I want a revelation So listen to my declaration:
ELIZA/ANGELICA/PEGGY “We hold these truths to be self-evident That all men are created equal”
ANGELICA And when I meet Thomas Jefferson,
ANGELICA I’m ‘a compel him to include women in the sequel!
That Would Be Enough
HAMILTON Will you relish being a poor man’s wife, unable to provide for your life?
ELIZA I relish being your wife.
...
ELIZA But I’m not afraid. I know who I married.
So long as you come home at the end of the day that would be enough.
We don’t need a legacy.
We don’t need money.
If I could grant you peace of mind,
If you could let me inside your heart…
Oh, let me be a part of the narrative
in the story they will write someday.
Let this moment be the first chapter:
where you decide to stay
and I could be enough
and we could be enough
hat would be enough.
Burn
ELIZA I’m erasing myself from the narrative.
Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted
when you broke her heart.
You have torn it all apart.
I am watching it burn.
Watching it burn.
The world has no right to my heart.
The world has no place in our bed.
They don’t get to know what I said.
I’m burning the memories,
Burning the letters that might have redeemed you.
Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story
MADISON He took our country from bankruptcy to prosperity.
I hate to admit it, but he doesn’t get enough credit for all the credit he gave us.
WASHINGTON AND COMPANY
Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?
ANGELICA Every other founding father story gets told.
Every other founding father gets to grow old.
BURR And when you’re gone, who remembers your name?
Who keeps your flame?
BURR AND MEN Who tells your story?
Who tells your story?
ANGELICA AND WOMEN Who tells your story? Your story?
ELIZA I put myself back in the narrative.
I Know Him
KING GEORGE
They say
George Washington's yielding his power and stepping away
‘Zat true?
I wasn't aware that was something a person could do
I'm perplexed
Are they gonna keep on replacing whoever's in charge?
If so, who's next?
There's nobody else in their country who looms quite as large…
hamilton 의 인기를 반영하는 굿즈들 (national archives museum gift shop in washington dc)
초연때 lin-manuel이 입었던 의상 (american history museum in washington dc)
1. thomas jefferson (만 쓰면 머리에서 it must be nice, it must be nice to have washington on your side가 계속 replay되고 있네요 ㅋㅋ)과 조지 3세를 저리 가볍고 comic하게 그려도 되냐고 ㅋㅋ 후손들이 sue 안하냐고
cabinet rap battle도 넘 재밌었고 그러면서도 history has its eyes on you로 이어지는 선율에서는 또 숙연해지고..
보너스로 // AI가 알려주는 helpful context to enhance your Hamilton experience로 마무리 할께요!
The basic historical context:
Alexander Hamilton was one of America's Founding Fathers - an immigrant from the Caribbean who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and later the first U.S. Treasury Secretary. The show covers roughly 1776-1804.
The musical style: While it's about 18th-century figures, Hamilton uses contemporary musical styles - primarily hip-hop and R&B. The show is almost entirely sung-through, with very little spoken dialogue. The rapid-fire lyrics pack in a lot of historical information and wordplay.
The casting approach:
Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda intentionally cast non-white actors to play historically white characters. This creative choice reflects America's diversity today and draws parallels between immigrant experiences then and now.
Key relationships to track:
Hamilton's complex rivalry with Aaron Burr
His close relationship with the Schuyler sisters (especially Eliza and Angelica)
His mentor-mentee relationship with George Washington
His political conflicts with Thomas Jefferson and James Madison
Practical tips:
Listen to some of the soundtrack beforehand if possible - it helps follow the fast-paced lyrics
Consider reading plot summaries online as the story can be complex to follow
The show runs about 2 hours and 45 minutes with one intermission
The Richard Rodgers Theatre has a dress code that's smart casual
Photos and recordings are strictly prohibited
Important themes to look out for:
Legacy and how history remembers people
Immigrant ambition and the American Dream
The personal cost of political ambition
The power of narratives and who gets to tell the story
------------------------------------
Lin-Manuel Miranda's journey from initial concept to Broadway took about 7 years:
2008: The seed was planted when Miranda read Ron Chernow's "Alexander Hamilton" biography while on vacation. He initially envisioned it as a concept album called "The Hamilton Mixtape."
2009: Miranda performed the first song (which would become "Alexander Hamilton") at the White House Evening of Poetry, Music, and the Spoken Word.
2012-2014: Development and workshops at Vassar College's Powerhouse Theater and other venues. During this time, Miranda continued writing songs and developing the show while also performing in and working on other projects.
2015:
January-February: Off-Broadway premiere at The Public Theater
August 6: Official Broadway opening at the Richard Rodgers Theatre
So from initial idea (2008) to Broadway opening (2015) was about 7 years. The show went through significant evolution during this time, transforming from Miranda's original concept of a mixtape to a full musical theater production.
One interesting note is that Miranda wrote many of the songs in non-traditional places - on the subway, while walking around the city, and even during his honeymoon. He has said that the song "Wait For It" came to him while riding the subway to a friend's party.

Alexander Hamilton played a pivotal role in establishing America's financial system as the first Secretary of the Treasury (1789-1795).
Here are his key contributions:
Bank of the United States Hamilton successfully pushed for the creation of the First Bank of the United States in 1791. This was America's first central bank, modeled partly after the Bank of England.
The bank:
Served as a repository for federal funds
Could issue currency and loans
Helped stabilize the national currency
Facilitated government borrowing and tax collection
National Debt Management Hamilton developed a plan to address both federal and state Revolutionary War debts:
He convinced Congress to assume all state debts
Established a system for paying off these debts rather than defaulting
Created federal bonds to refinance the debt
This enhanced the new nation's creditworthiness internationally
Financial Infrastructure
Created the U.S. Dollar as the standard currency
Established a mint for producing coinage
Developed systems for collecting customs duties and taxes
Created the Revenue Cutter Service (predecessor to the Coast Guard) to combat smuggling
Economic Philosophy Hamilton advocated for:
A strong central government role in economic affairs
Development of manufacturing alongside agriculture
Close ties between government and business interests
Active trade policies to promote American interests
His financial system was controversial at the time, particularly among those like Thomas Jefferson who favored a more agrarian economy with less federal power. However, Hamilton's basic framework laid the foundation for American capitalism and remains influential to this day. Many of his innovations, like having the federal government assume state debts, were used again during later crises including the 2008 financial crisis.
